Stamen
This is one of the two images I entered into the competition following last Saturday's World Wide Photo Walk in Austin. I spent most of the morning shooting HDRs but couldn't resist getting the macro lens out when we found a rather wonderful flowering shrub outside the Silicon Laboratories office. This was taken handheld in available light so has an incredibly shallow depth of field (probably about a tenth of an inch or thereabouts) but the effect of the sharp stamen above the coloured blur of the flower is very appealing to me.

Excellent macro, considering it’s handheld! Love the shallow DoF and the strong colours.
