Christmas Light Blob Zoom
At Saturday's 37th Street photowalk, I decided not to bother shooting anything vaguely sharp or recognisable and concentrated on weird and wonderful Christmas light-derived abstracts. This shot was one of my favourites and was created by zooming an out-of-focus image of some lights during a long exposure. To keep the zoom trails straight, I had the camera on a tripod but you can easily do this sort of thing handheld if you don't mind a few wobbles and kinks in the pattern.

Textbook work – zooming during an exposure – but far more than that. A fantastic abstrract . This is, I think, exceptional.
