Frozen Fir Trees, Utah
I thought I had posted this image already but I can't find it so here it is (possibly for the second time). I'm posting this for the "Best of 2010" Photo Friday competition. It may not be the most visually striking image I've produced this year but I'm reasonably convinced that it's my favourite.
Whereas most of my images are very bold either in color or shape and contrast, this one stands out for me in its subtlety - the wonderful gradient of tones as the trees disappear into the mist and the overall muting of colour caused by the covering of frost really appeals to me. On top of this, it's also one of the sharpest images I've ever taken. You don't get the full impression at 900 pixel resolution but you can pretty much count the needles when you see it full sized.
This will be my last post for 2010 so let me take this opportunity to thank everyone who visits and views my pictures and wish you all a very Happy New Year.

Sweet photo Dave! It reminds me why I’m on the road and not back home in the winter wonderland.
Happy New Year!

This is just a beautiful image Dave. Reminds me very much of the pacific northwest! I also will have to disagree with you about this not being visually striking… I feel frozen just looking at it!
